Get To Know:
Checkley Shaw

Patrick “Checkley” Shaw, the Quarterdeck Marina Manager at Bitter End, hails from Memphis, Tennessee and lived in St. Augustine, Florida for 25 years before joining the staff at Bitter End in January of 2007. He started on the Marina Desk, but his can-do attitude propelled him to Fleet Captain, and now he is the Quarterdeck Manager.
While working in the Caribbean may not be for everyone, for Checkley, the lure of the sea and sand is constant.
“I enjoy all aspects of boating, fishing and diving: the Bitter End provides an excellent environment for all of this. Plus the clear water and warm temperatures and steady breezes year ‘round help a lot.”
Anyone who knows Checkley knows that he really lights up when a sportfish “battlewagon” approaches Bitter End. And when the Billfish Tournament rolls around in July, Checkley will be in his element, “gaining experience from the wide array of boats that enter the North Sound, and assisting boaters as they arrive at Bitter End for the first time,” his favorite part of the job, according to Checkley.
Checkley wants to remind everyone that dock reservations are recommended though not required. But at peak times, such as any holiday, and Mondays and Tuesdays during the winter months, it’s wise to call or e-mail ahead for slip availability and reservations. And find out how you can join the Quarterdeck Club for additional perks! Email quarterdeckclub@beyc.com, call 284-494-2746, extension 315, or hail us on VHF Channel 16.
