Assistant Watersports Director

Ashley McGowan

Ashley McGowan, Bitter End’s Assistant Watersports Director, hails from the great outdoors of the great white north. Raised in London, Ontario, in Canada, she sailed at her family’s lake cottage every summer and skied all winter. Racing the circuit in Ontario at Sturgeon Lake Sailing Club where she was head instructor and race coach, she climbed to an overall 17th in the infamous CORK Regatta, sailing Laser 2s.

Ashley came aboard at Bitter End in October 2006, after visiting the resort many times as a counselor with Sail Caribbean, and then as part of the Sail Caribbean staff who assisted Bitter End’s staff to coordinate and run the Sail Caribbean Weeks at Bitter End. She got “hooked” on the BVI and finds Bitter End to be a second home, where she can get out and enjoy the tradewinds year round, play volleyball with fellow staff, and keep them groovin’ with her ipod, and foster enthusiasm for sailing in the kids who visit Bitter End. She is CYA certified, a certified diver, as well as US Sailing certified in basic keelboat sailing.

And, to the great benefit of staff and guests, she has also set her sights on keeping our corner of paradise cool this summer: she picked up ice cream churning skills at a dairy back home, and she’d like to set up a stand along the path at Bitter End!
