Watersports
Meet This Season's Team

Sailing lesson on North Sound
Our US Sailing certified instructors have the credentials and experience to instruct guests on the finer points of keelboat sailing and more; and the other members of our Waterports team can navigate the waters of the BVI in their sleep, to find the best spots for fishing, snorkeling, sailing and exploring. Read on to meet them!
Eustace Joseph Watersports Director
From Dominica, Eustace has been a part of Bitter End for 15 years. He is an amazing windsurfer and is happy to show guests a move or two. The next time you see him, congratulate him he just got married in September to
Christine, who also works at Bitter End!
Ashley McGowan Assistant Watersports Director
Ashley grew up in Canada, sailing at her cottage yacht club and participating in the Ontario racing circuit aboard Laser IIs, 420s, Lasers and Bytes. She found her way to the Caribbean when she ran the kids camp for Sail Caribbean, and fell in love with Bitter End the first time she saw it. As she says, “Who could ask for a better office view?”
Jerome Rand Head Instructor
From frozen northern Michigan, Jerome is glad to be at Bitter End, where it’s always above 75 degrees and the water does not feel like a barely melted glacier. Before he came to Bitter End, he escaped the winter by delivering boats, and in the summer taught (for eight years) at the alumni resort of the University of Michigan.
Sebastian Perry Senior Instructor
Sebastian is from Ireland, where he races and coaches other sailors on Optis, 420s, Lasers and Etchells. He finds the views of the megayachts on the docks stunning and enjoys finding out more about the boats and where they are from.
Giles Starkey Senior Instructor
Giles was born and raised in Tortola. He is an RYA Yachtmaster who can mix up a mean rum punch and keep guests in stitches when he captains their daysails.
Lee Jacobs Junior Instructor
Another local, and the newest member to the team, who when he’s not on the water is on the basketball court. And he works just as hard at basketball as he does at Bitter End his team just won the BVI championship!
Scott Allerton Kiteboarding Instructor
It seems like Scott has been kiting for as long as the sport has been around! From Satellite Beach, Florida, Scott is also an ocean kayak guide and will be running the Adventure Club and hiking trips up Gorda Peak. As he wishes every guest: “May your kite always be full and your lines never cross!”
Bernard Charles Fishing Captain
Bernard’s warm smile and easygoing manner are infectious, so even if the fish all get thrown back, a good time is guaranteed. He loves to fish, and as a local expert, he knows all the hot spots and the locations of the best banks.
Buck Harrigan Corinthian Captain
Buck has been at Bitter End practically as long as it has been here 30 years! He knows the waters well, and loves to explore and guide the guests to the most beautiful spots in the BVI.
Eddy Polluck Corinthian First Mate
Originally from Dominica, Eddy knows all of the local spots where the wind is perfect for sailing, the sea life is abundant for snorkeling, or the views and landscape are stunning. Congratulate him too the next time you see him he is a proud new father!
Michael Wheatley - Paranda Captain
Michael has been at Bitter End for over 20 years, 15 of those years as Captain of one of our excursion boats. In addition to being an expert sailor, he can give Eustace a run for his money on the windsurfing gear!
Terry Marshal Paranda First Mate
As co-host of the Sunset Sails, Terry makes those evenings on the water one of the best and not-to-be-missed Bitter End experiences. He too is an expert sailor, originally from St. Vincent.
Kinto Sprauve Ponce De Leon Captain
The snorkeling king and dancing machine, also known as Kinto, knows the best local snorkeling spots and loves to share them with guests. During busy times of the season, Kinto can also be seen with a gaggle of kids in tow for the evening, providing them with their very own sunset boat ride, and endless entertainment at dinner. For more on Kinto, check out the Summer 2007 issue of the North Soundings.
Javon Stevens Dinghy Attendant
Javon has been at Bitter End for over 15 years, and if you feel like you see him everywhere, it’s because he works at Watersports and in the restaurant in the evenings. Javon enjoys meeting people from all over the world and working on North Sound.
