Higher and Faster

Summer 2006: Unions, reunions and rendezvous!
In the realm of yacht racing, performance is everything. “Higher and Faster” are the three words every helmsman wants to hear from his tactician, after rounding the leeward mark heading upwind. Not only are you pointing higher (closer to the wind), but you are sailing faster than the competition. To achieve these results requires the right crew. Because no matter how state-of-the art the yacht is, it is the crew that delivers the results.
In this issue, you will meet some of the crew that make Bitter End one of the greatest destinations in the world. In addition, we have included some of this year’s highlights, new additions and upcoming events.
We are all delighted to introduce you to our new general manager, Mikhail Shamkin. He brings with him his own 30 years of experience in the Caribbean resort business (many in the BVI) and also carries a 100 ton captain’s license! So don’t be surprised if you find him at the helm of one of our boats from time to time.
In May we relocated our Reservations Office back to sunny Chicago, Illinois. The Spa (introduced last November) has received rave reviews and we are happy to report that our guests have figured out how to fit massages, manicures, facials and yoga into their already-packed activity schedules.
The new concrete megayacht dock has been busy all year, and the four rendezvous this summer provided all of us with a lot of great boat watching (check out the photo above.)
This fall, we kick off the 20th Anniversary of the Pro Am Regatta on October 28th. It is an unbelievable week of parties, racing and serious fun, and it remains the only event of its kind in the world.
As we head into our 32nd year, we want to thank all of you who continue to make Bitter End a part of your year and allow us the privilege and delight of hosting your weddings, rendezvous and other special events. There are more than 2000 repeater flags that adorn the Captain’s Table in the Clubhouse, and that keeps our crew striving to be the best.
