Bitter End is a haven for the most amazing yachts in the world. One of them, a Swan 100 named Red Sky, captained and crewed by Bob and Kathy Wellen, calls Bitter End home port this season.

Originally from Kansas, Bob was moonlighting at a local chandlery when he was asked to captain a Morgan 45, Koda. He ran away to sea and hasn’t looked back. He first visited Bitter End in 1988 aboard Koda and over the years has sailed in at the helm of a variety of boats including the Swan 651 Trinity, the Delta 122 Louise, and Red Sky.

Kathy, a licensed captain and trained chef, has been sailing with Bob since 1993. She first came to the Caribbean aboard the Windjammer as a guest and escaped her native Wisconsin winters by taking a job aboard the boat. She worked on catamarans in St. Martin and St. Barth’s before joining Bob in 1993 aboard Trinity.

Bob and Kathy help run and race in weekly regattas, throw great parties at the Quarterdeck and are always ready to help, so you may run into them during your visit. Ideal ambassadors for the BVI, they share their experience with fellow yacht captains, and Bitter End and North Sound top their list of preferred anchorages!

We are proud that Bob and Kathy choose Bitter End and glad to call them friends. We’ve already set aside a slip for them for next season!
