Mary Jos
Most Romantic Couple

Britten and Jake
This story starts about 18 years ago when the Buckner Family came to Bitter End for the first time. For the Buckners, the vacation became a bit more than sailing, snorkeling and relaxation. Fascinated by the watersports world, daughter Carrie was working the desk at the ripe old age of five and son Jake, 12, was out and about showing other kids how to run the Boston whalers. The staff and guests quickly grew accustomed to seeing these youngsters at the water’s edge.
Over the years, Jake expanded the one week into a full time job in Watersports. An excellent instructor and windsurfer, he made friends easily and took his responsibilities very seriously. When Jake made the decision to return to Texas and get a “real job,” he knew that Bitter End would always have a special place in his life.
“Mary Jo, I’ve met this girl and I want to bring her down to the Bitter End,” was the beginning of it all. Naturally I told him to come on down, knowing she must be special for Jake to bring her to Bitter End.
Jake Buckner and Britten LaRue only had eyes for each other the whole week. Britten turned out to be a true Bitter Ender and fit right in to our family.
The next time he called, Jake could not contain his excitement and blurted out, “We’re engaged and we want to get married at Bitter End!”
Naturally I told them to come on down and we would throw one heck of a party. What a great way to celebrate with family and friends and share a new beginning!
The wedding festivities went on for days. The mixing of in-laws, college buddies and childhood friends all came together seamlessly. Everyone came together to celebrate the joining of three families: the Buckners, the LaRues and the Bitter End family. When Jake and Britten said “I do” on the beach overlooking North Sound there was a moment when one had to pinch oneself to make sure it was not a dream but really a dream come true.
Now Jake and Britten can start their own vacation tradition and maybe start bringing down the next generation of Buckners… we are really big on family reunions… come on down!
