January 17-24, 2004
Yacht Club Midwinter Team Race Invitational
At the Bitter End Yacht Club, Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands

Dates: January 17-24 (race days: January 19, 20, 22, 23 — Jan. 17 & 18 are practice days. Jan. 21 is a layday)
Place: Bitter End Y.C., North Sound, Virgin Gorda, BVI. Expected conditions: Steady 14-16 knots ENE, flat water, 85-degree air temp., and 75 to 80-degree water temp.

Boats: Hunter 216 sport boats (supplied by Bitter End Yacht Club), sailed without spinnakers. Hunter 216s are raced by teams of 4 persons.

Eligibility: Open to teams accepted by the Bitter End Yacht Club and Royal BVI Yacht Club for participation—application required. Three boats to a team. At least 75%, and all skippers, of a team’s participants must be from the club they are representing.

Rules: The BEYC Midwinter Team Race Invitational will be governed by the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing (2001-2003), and the sailing instructions.

Format: Over four (half) days, an elimination round-robin will be sailed, with each team sailing the other teams at least twice each. The top two teams (based on won-lost records) will then compete in a final sail-off (three of five). The next two teams will sail a consolation series (two of three). There is plenty of time in the schedule for rest and relaxation (trademarks of BVI/BEYC regattas).

Prizes: Trophies will go to the top two teams, plus a sportsmanship award, voted on by the competitors.

Entries: First 4 fully-paid team entries accepted. Teams must make BEYC hotel reservations by December 1, 2003 (for discount rates to apply). For further information, contact John Glynn at the Bitter End Y.C. at jglynn@beyc.com. Phone 203-656-0799 or FAX 203-656-0788. For hotel information, go to www.beyc.com.
