Stephen Marcellin, Front of the House

Stephen Marcellin came to the Bitter End five years ago from the lovely island of St Lucia. Stephen is one of the popular Bitter End bartenders and you can find him behind the bar at the Clubhouse, the Carvery or Stephen’s favourite, the Pub. On Monday nights you won’t be surprised to see Stephen’s smile at the Guest Cocktail party where he is making sure that everyone has a full drink and a great time.

Mary Jo Ryan, Resort Manager, says Stephen is one of the most open and inquisitive people she has ever met. Her comments are borne out as Stephen says that since coming to Bitter End he has enjoyed being able to meet so many different people. Being a good listener is a prerequisite for any bartender and Stephen is a great person to sit down and have a chat with while you are enjoying a drink. His natural curiosity has led him to travel throughout the Caribbean as well as to Montreal, Canada, which he enjoyed despite it being a “little colder” than he expected.

In his spare time Stephen takes to the water to do some windsurfing. A big fan of reggae and calypso music, Stephen has a love of jazz as well and he is currently learning to play the alto saxophone. As far as drinks go, Stephen’s favourites to make are Pina Coladas and Pain Killers. However, at the end of the day when Stephen finally gets a chance to relax, his own drink of choice is a good red wine. Make sure you stop by the bar and see Stephen on your next visit to the Bitter End.

Samuel Jones, Back of the House

Originally from the island of St Kitts, Samuel Jones, simply known around Bitter End as Jones, has been working at the Bitter End Yacht Club since February of 1991. Prior to coming to the Bitter End, Jones worked as a junior accounting clerk for a government office in St Kitts. Upon his arrival here, Jones took the job of the night auditor which he held for eight years. Seemingly indefatigable, Jones also started taking on daytime shifts at the Watersports Center where he taught windsurfing and sailing over the course of another six years. In 1999, when Bitter End brought in a computer system, we turned to the multi talented Jones to be our information systems manager and general computer guru. Jones has kept the information at the resort running smoothly ever since.

When Jones does find some free time he is an avid fisherman and an outdoors enthusiast. He is one of the most accomplished windsurfers and sailors on the staff and you can often see him out shredding with the watersports crew. Jones enjoys table tennis and for a number of years was Bitter End’s undisputed ping pong champion; however, in terms of sports, Jones’  greatest passion is for cricket and he follows the West Indies team’s international matches closely. He used to play cricket on St Kitts, but, in his typical self effacing manner, suggests he wasn’t very good.

Jones is popular with his colleagues and every guest who has a chance to meet him is in for a treat. In speaking of Jones, Gordo Overing, Director of Guest Activities says, “Nothing ever phases Jones. There is no challenge he can’t meet. Around here we call him “Dr. Jones” because whatever’s broken, he fixes.”
