Get to Know:
BEYCs 2003 Sailing Instructors
We have lined up an excellent international field of instructors to take care of all your sailing needs at Bitter Ends Sailing School. Meet the new crew for 2003:
Esther Recourt: Back for another season, the Dutch Recourt has taken on the role of head instructor, specializing in keelboat instruction. Esther will be happy to help you schedule your week of instruction and will do her best to match each student with the appropriate instructor. Be sure to ask her about her many transatlantic voyages.
Martin Andre: Martin is back for his second year at Bitter End. A Canadian trained sailor and national caliber swimmer; this catamaran expert has quickly become one of the top windsurfing instructors on staff. Marty looks to expand his field of instruction to include our Rhodes 19 and Freedom 30 fleets.
Katie McGauley: Katie joins us from the world famous Olympic Circle Sailing Club, based in Berkeley, California. A specialist in J-22s and J-24s, this US Sailing Keelboat Instructor started sailing in Harbor Springs, Michigan and went on to spend seven summers working with kids 8-16 years of age. Katie also looks forward to perfecting her windsurfing skills over the next six months.
Daniela Coen: Borrowed from another famous sailing program, Daniela joins us from the Longshore Sailing School of Connecticut. A small boat and kids sail specialist, Daniela will be a key element in our Junior Sailing Program. Daniela was trained by none other than John Kantor, owner and operator of LSS. Daniela has spent time working with former Bitter End staffer Brent Lochridge and former Bitter End Sailing School director Tony Edwards.
Ryan Hanger: Young Ryan Hanger joins us as the resident instructor in training. This young upstart worked briefly with the Bitter End crew during the spring of 2002. Ryan jumpstarted his sailing career by hitching a transatlantic ride aboard the mega sailing yacht Mirabella III. Ryans dad, Brad, is the medi-vac helicopter pilot in the BVI, a role Ryan hopes to fill in the future. In the meantime, Young Skywalker will continue to develop his small boat sailing skills, and will be a key element of our Junior Sailing Program.
