 Published:  Family Reunions at Bitter End  The Tuff family are joined by all their Bitter End family friends. Over the past 30 years, Bitter End has hosted numerous family reunions. The fact is; Bitter End began as a family retreat for Myron Hokin and his family. Stories about Hokin reunions are legendary, featuring crazy boat races, fantastic entertainment, and of course, great food and drink. Many of our day trips find their roots in the Hokin family outings that took place during these gatherings. The tradition continues to this day. Bitter End has played the host to some exceptional family reunions, including the Macarthur family, the Callaway gang and the Seigal family, to name a few. My favorite story is that of the Tuff family reunion. About 5 years ago, the Tuff family decided to visit Bitter End at Christmas. The four kids were avid sailors and great socializers. The hotel was packed with young people from all over the states including the Perkins family, the Kubly family and the Leppard gang. The kids all hit it off famously, as did the parents. The next thing we knew all four families booked to return the following Christmas. This was the beginning of a very exciting friendship. Each year, one of the kids is assigned the role of activity coordinator. This job includes organizing the annual Watermelon Regatta; a fun filled event featuring most of the Watersports fleet and many melons. Naturally, it is completely outrageous. Of course, there are parties galore featuring great food, dancing and refreshments. And this is just one example of the kind of reunions we have seen over the years at Bitter End. With the variety of great equipment, our famous relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff, we continue to carry on the tradition of hospitality laid out by the Hokin family almost 30 years ago. Coming from a large family myself, I could not imagine a better place to get together to enjoy each others’ company in what has been described as the ultimate watersports playground. — Gordo Overing |
