Employees of the Year

Beulah Samuel, Front of the House

When looking for a front of the house employee of the year, there are certain attributes one looks for. A team player, a leader, a person who cares about our guests and staff, and has great initiative. But what makes that person stand out will be the fact that they will go “beyond the call of duty.” Finding that “Employee of the year” is never easy. The list is shortened to all those who won employee of the month for the year and then the supervisors and managers of the hotel have the daunting task of selecting the candidate.

16 years ago Beulah Samuel from Dominica joined the Clubhouse Restaurant team as a table busser. Over the next few years she worked her way up through the ranks as a waitress, a cashier to breakfast Hostess and now is the Clubhouse Breakfast Supervisor. Over the years she has won Employee of the Month, Employee of the Quarter, and she has overwhelmed us with her keenest desire to please everyone—guest and fellow staff alike. She has now earned herself the well-deserved title “Front of House Employee of the Year 2001.” WELL DONE! Beulah continues to focus on the future with plans to study Hospitality Management. — Sarah Watts-Dowling

James Meade, Back of the House

James Meade has been instrumental in the physical development of the Bitter End Yacht Club for over 16 years. An original member of the Waldo O’Neal Construction team, James quickly rose to the position of site manager during the major development push of 1986. “Meade” as he is best known, worked closely with Myron Hokin and Peter Brill as the Lobby Building and the Beachfront Villas first came on line. Under his leadership, construction projects ranging from docks to cart paths to major structures have been accomplished—on time, and within budget.

“Meade has an incredible ability to look at a project and interpret what people are trying to achieve, even when they themselves do not.” says Gord-O Overing. “I have had many an opportunity to work with James, and he always surprises me with his attention to detail and his leadership skills with his crew. I wish we had 10 Meades at Bitter End!” On behalf of the staff at Bitter End, we would like to say “Congratulations on winning employee of the year! You truly deserve it.” —Team Bitter End.
