Midwinter Regatta of Champions
January 11–18, 2003

Come Race Lasers and Rhodes 19s With Weekly Winners.

The 2003 Midwinter Regatta of Champions is scheduled for January 11 to 18. Each year the Bitter End invites winners of our popular Sunday Regattas to come back for a week of racing and fun. Over the course of the week, skippers test their skills in both Lasers and Rhodes 19s to determine the overall champion will be. Skippers may choose to do one class or the other, or both.

The program kicks off with a Welcoming Champagne Harbor Cruise on the evening of the 11th. However, some skippers come early to get familiar with the Lasers and the Rhodes 19s. And some come early to train for the post race parties! Each evening, social gatherings are scheduled.

Racing gets underway with the traditional Sunday Laser and Rhodes 19 Regatta on the 12th. Laser racing is scheduled for Monday morning, Rhodes racing for Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday is a Layday (enjoy the Anegada excursion), Thursday morning is for Lasers, and Friday afternoon is reserved for the finals of the Rhodes 19s. While competitive racing is the order of the day, the emphasis is clearly on fun. Hence the schedule allows for plenty of off-time for snorkeling, scuba, windsurfing, beachcombing, and hiking.

After the final whistle, all the racers gather at the Watersports Center for the traditional Bitter End cooler of refreshments as well as our awards ceremony, highlighted by plenty of “It ain’t over ‘til the cooler’s empty” tee-shirts. Rumor has it there will be a good supply of Mt. Gay hats to be had as well. Dave Hoffman, our overall champion from 2002, and Sally Sharpe, our overall champion from 2001 are returning to prove that their victories were not a lark. In addition, the grand prize drawing winner of our 2001 Sunday Regattas, Chuck Allen, is using his complimentary week long stay to attend this year’s Midwinter Regatta. Good Luck to all!

For more information on the racing and the daily schedule, e-mail overing@hotmail.com. Reserve your spot in the regatta by booking at 800-872-2392, or at www.beyc.com. Qualified non Sunday winners may enter by resume if space allows.
