Sarah’s
Most Romantic Couple

Tracy and Chris Myers

Sarah Watts-Dowling, the Bitter End’s new Food & Beverage Manager (formerly operations manager), organizes on-site weddings, along with resident manager Mary Jo Ryan. She worked with Tracy and Chris on organizing their on-site wedding at Bitter End. The following story is excerpted, with editorial comments, from Tracy’s own letter to Sarah.

Tracy, originally from Pennsylvania, and Chris, originally from Vermont but living in Texas, met in the summer of 1999, when he was 37 and she was 31. He was, and is, a pilot for Delta Airlines. He’s also a Naval Reservist pilot. She, was, and is a flight attendant with Delta. Prior to meeting Chris, Tracy was a mother of three boys (together they had Christi.) The crew they were flying with set them up, and they hit it off from the start, even though Chris was a confirmed bachelor. They realized that a long-distance relationship (especially with children involved) would be difficult to say the least. They spoke on the phone for a few months, then decided to get together for a “date.” Chris was flying to Pittsburgh from Dallas (where he lived). They had an incredible time together, and flew to visit each other at every opportunity. After about a year of the long-distance relationship, they bought a house in Pennsylvania and a few months later, they added Christiana to the family. Chris popped the question one day when Tracy was having a really bad day. In gentlemanly fashion, he got down on his knee, and asked her to marry him. Though in shock for a minute, she immediately said YES!

Chris knew about the Bitter End from his days flying with the Navy in Puerto Rico. They chose the Bitter End for several reasons: They thought it would be amusing (especially to those who knew Chris in his “bachelor” days) to get married at “The Bitter End.” In Tracy’s words, “we could say he remained a bachelor — till the Bitter End”! He had told Tracy what a beautiful place it was, and she couldn’t wait to see it for herself. They thought it only fitting that they have their wedding toast with “painkillers,” instead of the traditional champagne! Chris’ friends would have been proud!

According to Tracy, “we loved everything about Bitter End! It was exactly what we had in mind for our wedding — quiet and private, yet fun and exciting— any water sport you can imagine — RIGHT THERE anytime! I love to cook, and the food there was outstanding! Our compliments to the chef(s). We can’t say enough about the staff. Everyone was so helpful and down-to-earth. By the end of our stay, we felt like part of the ‘family.’ Sarah, you made this whole event a no-brainer. We can’t thank you enough for the time and care you put into coordinating the whole affair! We were especially thankful to have met Rolita (Harley) who became Christi’s adopted grandmother for the length of our stay. We miss her (and the rest of the staff)! We are planning to return again soon. Thanks again for our dream wedding. We both agreed that Bitter End is an incredibly magical place!”

You too can celebrate your wedding and honeymoon at Bitter End!
