Who’s Who in Marine Operations

Dave Pugsley:
Director of Marine Operations, General Manager, North Sound Express.

Dave hails from Connecticut and brings a long history of work in the marine industry. He began his career at Boston Whaler and over time advanced to Vice-President at Ericsson Yachts in California as well as President of Great Eastern Marine Ltd. He has been with us at Bitter End for three seasons, and is now beginning his fourth.

Brent Hollink:
Quarterdeck Marina Manager

As part of our large Canadian group, Brent comes to us from Montreal, via Vancouver. He has worked many years in boating, from working summers at a local yacht club, eventually advancing to assistant manager there, to working in dock-building and tugboat captaining in British Columbia. He has been with us for three years, and has brought the Freedom 30 fleet up to a higher standard since his appointment.

Melanie Brisebois:
Marine Operations Coordinator

Also from Montreal, Melanie is in her fourth season with Bitter End, teaching sailing first, then moving on to her present position. In this position, she will be assisting in all the facets of marine operations, from the Chandlery to the outboard department.

Justin Clemens:
Fleet Captain

Justin joins us from Chicago, where he ran the sailing program at Chicago Sailing Club before spending a season teaching at J-World in Florida. As Fleet Captain, he is responsible for coordinating the maintenance program on the Freedom 30s and Bradley 22s.

Jason Jenkins:
Boatwright

Having followed in Brent’s footsteps, attaining assistant manager of the same home yacht club back in Montreal, Jason joins us now at the Quarterdeck as our boatwright. He is responsible for the maintenance of the Freedom 30s and Bradley 22s, in addition to the tasks associated with the daily running of our busy marina.

Isaac Williams:
Harbor Master
See “Get To Know: Captain Isaac.

Vera Richards:
Housekeeping

Vera comes to us after 7 years in our housekeeping department. She is responsible for the setting up of our Freedoms for guests who will be living aboard, from keeping the stainless shining outside to the flowers you will find on arrival inside. In addition, she assists with the daily operation of the marina.

Norris George:
Fuel Dock Attendant

Returning boaters also recognize Norris from prior visits, as he has been with us for 19 years. He is kept busy at our expanding fuel dock as we can now provide water for up to three boats simultaneously.

Darryl Stevens:
Fuel Dock Attendant

Darryl is a new face at our fuel dock, helping Norris with our expanding business. He is always smiling and will be happy to help you with your lines as you approach our fuel dock.

Colet Hazelwood:
Inventory Controller

Colet has been with Bitter End for six years, the last three at the Quarterdeck. She now works at the Chandlery.

St Clair Phillips:
Outboard Technician

“Shadow” is a well-respected and accomplished mechanic with many years of training and experience. We are very lucky to have him on our team as he is a sought after professional.

Service Boats

Norbert Wheatley:
Service Boat Manager

Norbert oversees the transportation of every staff member to and from our property every day, not an easy job given that we have no roads into the property. We’re entirely dependent on boats for the operation of our resort and Norbert carries that responsibility very well. He has been part of the Bitter End Family for 22 years.

Albert Joseph:
Ferry Captain

Albert, known to fellow staff as Lexi, is a remarkable captain who has been with the company for 16 years. He began his Bitter End career as a groundsman, then turned to boats as the First Mate aboard Prince of Wales. He progressed into captain, first at the helm of our fishing charter boat and then to his current position.

Hugo Harley:
Ferry Captain

Hugo, or Captain Poncho to the Bitter End family, is the general grandfather of all the captains. He has been with the company for 23 years. He has done work in Food and Beverage along with captain work in just about every facet of our marine department, including his current position of Ferry Boat Captain.

Norwell Creque:
Ferry Captain

Norwell began his service at Bitter End 21 years ago as a waiter. He later on fell in love with boats and has been a Ferry Boat Captain for many years now.

Ephsie Ricketts:
Diesel Mechanic

Ephsie hails from Jamaica, where he was with Jamaica Caterpillar for over 20 years, working with engines from locomotives to earth movers. He is Caterpillar-certified, and very well qualified to maintain our fleet of Caterpillar engines, currently numbering 14. He has been at Bitter End for 7 years, and is one of the best diesel mechanics in the BVI.

Warren George:

Our Employee of the Year 1999, Warren has what is undoubtedly one of the toughest jobs at Bitter End: carting away the mountains of refuse that are produced by a 90-room resort and numerous transient boaters every day. Not only does he do a great job, but he smiles all the time. .
