"The Fleet Just Keeps Getting Better"
By Gordo Overing, BEYC Guest Activities Director

Did you know that the Boston Whaler is the most popular boat in our fleet? So much for the Bitter End being a sailor’s resort! Nonetheless, recently we updated our Whaler fleet with 16 new 11-footers equipped with 8hp Evinrude engines.

The hot and happening Hobie Wave is our most popular sailboat. We keep 8 Hobie Waves in our fleet at all times, cycling out the oldest two hulls every year (our oldest Hobie is a 1999 hull). Very recently, we refitted our Hobies with BEYC-customized Doyle Sails. And by the time you read this, intermediate and performance cat sailors will have a new “off-the-beach toy” to try out at Bitter End. We’re just taking delivery of two new Hobie Getaways—as we were with the Waves, we will be the first Caribbean resort with the exciting Getaway. Ours will be jib and main-equipped, and sport a trapeze for the crew.

For the novices, we have also added the popular Vanguard Pico sailing dinghy to our fleet. This stable two-person boat is ideal for kids and families alike.

We have also upgraded our entire Mistral Windsurfing fleet to include state of the art rigs and boards.

And we have not forgotten about our beginners and kids. Our new Hi-Fly Primo’s are recognized as the standard for Windsurfing instruction. Coupled with a wide range of teaching sails, this great sport is more accessible than ever.

Of course, the wind does not always blow at Bitter End (though it does most of the time). This is why we have upgraded our Kayak fleet to include the new Hobie Mirage pedal kayak. This unique craft is a great form of exercise and fun.

We have new sails on our J-24’s, Lasers (15 available at all times), Rhodes 19s, and Optimist Dinghies, as well as top of the line North Monofilm sails for our High Performance Windsurfing fleet.

Enjoy the toys! Read on about other great things to do at Bitter End.
