3rd Annual Black Boaters Summit

Seventy participants in the 3rd Annual Black Boaters Summit called on Bitter End this past September, and were treated to a rousing presentation given by BEYC Advisory Board member Captain Bill Pinkney.
Captain Bill is best known as the Captain and project manager of the schooner Amistad, immortalized in the Steven Spielberg movie of the same name. Past Bitter End guests might also remember Captain Bill during his Fall Fast Tack Season visits to lead daily Freedom 30 flotillas.
Captain Bills Black Boaters Summit speech touched on a number of topics, including the history of African American mariners, as well as his own historic solo voyage around the world (Pinkney was the first African American to sail around the world solo). During that voyage, millions of inner city school children were educated daily on his progress via satellite and Internet communications.
Next September, Bitter End looks forward to hosting non-liveaboards during the 4th Annual BBS, with Pinkney again the keynote speaker.
